Average American
Incomes:
Lies, Damn Lies &
Statistics
Take a population group of 100 Americans. 99 people make $2,000 each per year. That totals $198,000. But one man makes $10,000,000. The total income for all 100 people is $10,198,000. The average income is $101,980. That sounds pretty good for that particular population. The trouble is there is one very happy millionaire; but there are 99 very miserable below the poverty-level quasi-slaves.
This is an extreme example, but it demonstrates that averages are worthless, particularly when there is a great disparity in incomes as we have today in the United States. But the Bush administration would focus on the Average - $101,980 – and say, “That 100 Americans are averaging almost $102,000. What are you complaining about?”
That’s how the Republicans scam America. That’s how the “Have-Mores” scam America. And that’s how the QuasiCons scam America. They rely on the ignorance of “average” Americans. I’m not going to get into complicated mathematical formulae here. There are much superior ways of determining rational, relevant figures for that particular population. Those calculations will yield $2,000, not $101,980.
They tell you the Economy is going great guns. But that’s because they are using formulas as misleading as the average formula for that population above. More money is leaving the USA than is coming into the country; that’s a deficit. But those on top are getting a much larger percentage of what’s left; so they’re happy as a bunch of pigs in manure. And they really don’t care if the other 99% of us are in the toilet. They’ve got theirs.
Now if you want a $2,000 job working in Mr. Have-More’s kitchen, he does have a couple of openings. But you better hurry because there will be a long line of unemployed people, not counted in that 100. To include people, who make nothing, would have lowered the average significantly below $100,000. Since their unemployment comp ran out, they no longer count or exist for the purposes of our statistical analysis.
But when the word gets out about those 2 openings in Mr. Have-More’s kitchen, you better get out of their path – we’re talking stampede. And we’re not talking Illegals anymore. Most of the Illegals, that Bush wanted here because “there are jobs Americans won’t do”, are making $3,000 per year. So you unemployed Americans will have to settle for the $2,000 kitchen jobs. Fortunately Illegals make too much to apply for those menial jobs.
But that’s around 2010 when that becomes the norm. In 2006, we have a graduating class of College seniors, who are expecting to make $35,000 - $75,000 per year to start. To those ambitious seniors in 2006 I say, “Good luck”. Maybe you should apply South of the Border.
