Subject: America won last night
Dear Tabacco**,
If you were wondering if we won or lost the debate on judicial
filibusters, look no further than the following statement from James
Dobson, founder of "Focus on the Family" and a key architect of the
right-wing extremist movement:
"This Senate agreement represents a complete bailout and betrayal by a
cabal of Republicans and a great victory for united Democrats. The
rules that blocked conservative nominees remain in effect, and nothing
of significance has changed."
For more evidence, check out the headline from today's Washington Times, a key mouthpiece of the right-wing:
"7 Republicans abandon GOP on filibuster"
I am so pleased that senators from both sides of the aisle have walked
the Senate back from the brink and defeated this terrible abuse of
power. You can read my full statement about last night's agreement on

Thanks for your continued support in this fight for America's future. I'll keep you posted on the many battles that lie ahead.
In Friendship,
Barbara Boxer

The following quotes can be found at http://en.thinkexist.com
"From the beginning of our history the country has been afflicted with
compromise. It is by compromise that human rights have been abandoned."
- Anonymous quotes
"Compromise is never anything but an ignoble truce between the duty of a man and the terror of a coward." - Anonymous quotes
"Compromise: An amiable arrangement between husband and wife whereby they agree to let her have her own way." -Anonymous quotes
"Compromise is but the sacrifice of one right or good in the hope of retaining another--too often ending in the loss of both."
- Tryon Edwards quotes ((1809-1894))
"Compromise makes a good umbrella, but a poor roof; it is temporary
expedient, often wise in party politics, almost sure to be unwise in
statesmanship."
- James Russell Lowell quotes (American poet, critic, essayist, editor and diplomat, 1819-1891)
"Compromise is usually bad. It should be a last resort. If two
departments or divisions have a problem they can't solve and it comes
up to you, listen to both sides and then pick one or the other. This
places solid accountability on the winner to make it work. Condition
your people to avoid compromise." - Robert Townsend quotes
"Peace won by the compromise of principles is a short-lived achievement."
- Unknown quotes
"The compromise will always be more expensive than either of the suggestions it is compromising."
- Arthur Bloch quotes
Yes, there are positive quotes regarding compromise, but I didn’t find 1 that was persuasive.

Warmest regards,
................ In her email to which I replied, I spliced these comments after her quote:
"7 Republicans abandon GOP on filibuster"
My comments:
Only a complete fool would brag that he made a fool out of the
person he has just closed a deal with; that would make it impossible to
pull the wool over his quarry’s eyes the next time, wouldn’t it! A
smart person would say, “you got the best of me”, then go on about his
business with a smirk. James Dobson may not be privy to Bush’s real
goals, so I wouldn’t rely on disingenuous or uninformed comments like
that. The Democrats are crying, “Victory” and the Republicans are
moaning, “Defeat”; but 3 unpalatable judges are going to be confirmed.
Innocence is admirable, but not in a US Senator. And what will the
Democrats do next time when Frist cries, “Down with Filibuster!” Will
it be more of the same? Study history! The Allies should have stopped
Hitler much sooner. Appeasement and blackmail payments N-E-V-E-R work
for long.
