The two following Posts from 2005 have received the most relevant and vehement Comments from Readers, most of which were published. I also include, in the body of this Republication, screen captures of those published Comments as well as my replies to those comments. In the past week this issue has been resurrected by two more Comments, both published under the original Posts.
All of the Comments miss the point of my Articles: The ignorance of the Smettes contributed to the death of their own son and their subsequent public support for George W. Bush and his ignoble War in Iraq continues to augment the deaths of 4,000+ American soldiers beside their own son, not to mention the 1,000,000 Iraqis and the secret number of Blackwater Mercenaries, who have died because of our American INVASION, regardless of who pulled the triggers.
The Smettes and their apologists scrupulously avoid taking any responsibility for or even mentioning those subsequent deaths. Tabacco is appalled at this uniquely American way of Selfishness - if the deaths are not American, they are irrelevant;

If you read my blog, you know I am dead set against euphemisms. I shall not be kind to people like Charlotte and Doug Smette, whose son Keith like 1,900+ others, was killed in Iraq. If the Smettes did not vote for ABB (Anybody But Bush) in the last 2 elections, they have my deepest sympathy. But from their participation in the modest rally yesterday in Washington, supporting the war and denigrating Cindy Sheehan, who lost her son Casey, and between 100,000 and 300,000 anti-war protestors, the Smettes deserve neither our sympathy nor our euphemisms.
If Charlotte and Doug Smette voted for George W. Bush in 2000 and/or 2004, they assisted in Keith's murder just the same as George W. and the enemy combatants, who detonated the roadside bomb that killed Keith. I feel absolutely certain that had she and lots of other parents, now grieving, pulled the lever for Al Gore, instead of George W. Bush, their sons and daughters would now be alive. I accuse the Smettes of being accessories, before the fact, to Capital Murder in the 2nd degree of their own son, Keith Smette.
The Smettes and any others, who fit this profile, can deny the truth to the press; but they cannot deny it to themselves. If you voted for George W. Bush in 2000 and/or 2004, and have not lost a son or daughter or friend or relative yet, you are still as guilty as the Smettes in the murder of 1,900+ U. S. servicemen and servicewomen. I accuse you of complicity in the murder of 1,900+ U. S. soldiers as well as 100,000+ Iraqis, including innocent women and children. If you had voted for Gore in 2000, Bush would not have been President, 9/11 might never have happened, and the United States most certainly would not have gone to war in Iraq; a war that now appears almost certain to be lost, without changing much of anything. Incidentally, Saddam Hussein has been in U. S. custody for some time, or had you forgotten.
If you vote for rich men, like Bush, to the office of President, you deserve what you get.

The Smettes want me to shut up about them. Until and unless the Smettes agree to repudiate their support for this wicked war, I will continue to publicize their unconscionable support for Bush's selfish, hypocritical, genocidal, immoral, blasphemous, duplicitous War that should never have occurred in the first place. I also impugn Hillary Clinton and all other Democrats, who now support the pursuance of this war one day longer than is absolutely necessary.
See my Article today, "Hillary Clinton Defends Indefensible Iraq War - I Will Support Her Primary Opponent In 2008". I like most things about Hillary Clinton; but her support for the War is anathema to me as it is to Cindy Sheehan. Hillary needs to wake up and stop putting her career before her country.

How ironic that you believe you stand for kindness and righteousness yet attack a grieving mother. Has it occurred to you that in her grief the only possibility for her is that her son died for something noble and not for nothing at all? We all grieve in our own ways, Charlotte and Doug are honest, loving people in pain just as I am sure Cindy Sheehan is. True, there are many victims of this war - which is exactly why we should work harder toward a world of love and respect. The Smette's went to DC not to defend George Bush but to ask Cindy Sheehan, yet again, to stop using their son's picture, likeness and name and let him rest in peace. I stand for fairness, equality and truth - not kindness and righteousness. You must have me confused with Mother Theresa. I used to be a nice guy, but George W. Bush ended that period of my life. Now I'm an SOB, who fights fire with fire, who gives no quarter and asks for none. In my article I offered an apology for what I was about to say, not to the Smettes, but to Readers just like you - good people, who believe in "a world of love and respect". To people like you I do apologize for being an SOB just like the SOBs I'm fighting against. I can't fight guns with a prayer book. Maybe you can, but I want to win - not just fight and lose. Heroine and crack changed the world, as we knew it. So George W. Bush has changed the world again for the worse. Would that your vision were possible - but it isn't. I watch people suffer and die while he and the other neocons get richer off other people's misery. I write this blog, not to wring my hands and say, "Woe is me". Those days are over. I just feel that attacking others and creating more pain isn't the way to go and respect that others can have their own opinion. Elizabeth Montoya: Welcome again. I am glad to "preach to the choir". I have nothing personal against your sister, Charlotte. It is her support of the Iraq War and George W. Bush's policies that I consider very dangerous. The Republicans always use people like Charlotte to undercut antiwar activists like Cindy Sheehan. Had Charlotte kept her personal opinions to herself, I wouldn't have written that Article about her. But basically good people, like Charlotte, are unwittingly enabling demagogues, like George W. Bush, to conduct this war for oil and profit for companies such as Halliburton. Ask yourself why we are still in Iraq when Saddam Hussein is our prisoner and has been for some time. When reading this I can't help but laugh, because it is American soldiers that gave you the right to your own opions. It makes me think that you are hartless to attack someone as sweet as the Smette's. Those people never turn someone down when they need help, I know first hand. Would you rather Saddam be there so that he could keep commiting geneside? Have you seen the good that the Americans have done for the Iraqi school childern? Or how about Saddam funding Al Quadi so that they can afford to send people to flight school, or have you forgotten? Have you thought that Keith was a man and could make his own decisions? I am sure if all (yes, that is republicans as well as the spineless lot of democrats we have in office) of the people who supposedly represent the average American grew some balls we would pull out tomorrow from this quagmire. What makes you think you can see back into the past and say it was just electing bush that got us into this mess in the first place? I would say it was when bush senior didnt pull out and spray junior onto moms belly... I dont think your turd sandwich would have done much better when it comes to this situation. The American public has very little choice when it comes to politics. It is all so very much a two party farce. The people here, or should I say sheeple, are just dumbasses that vote for religion, guns, or the right to have abortions. Pretty trite when you think about the fact that we are way down on the international list of for public education, infant mortaliy, and freedom of the press...give our government 50 more years in office and the average american will be so ignorant none of this will matter. I think this article really ticks me off because these folks were my neighbors thank you very much and I don't appreciate you writing crap like this. If you really knew these people and how they're still coping with his loss, you wouldn't write stuff like this.
Charlotte and Doug are some of the most amazing people I will ever meet and for you to write this, it not only breaks my heart, it really ticks me off. I don't care if you think I'm a witch just because I don't appreciate this article. If Charlotte were to ever read this, she would cry, i hope you know this because she never got over him and she never will and its articles like this that make matters worse. Don't write about stuff you don't know. Charlotte and Doug Smette are one of the most respected families and have never said ill towards anyone and have always been there for anyone. You should really be ashamed of yourself and I hope you never write stories like this unless you personally know them.

Strange that you should write at this time! I have been thinking about the Smettes for the last month, wondering what happened to the people, who helped murder their own son. You should read the Comments! Then you will find out that the Smettes have known about these Posts (there were 2) since October, 2005, when they were published. What took you so long to find them?
I received Comments from friends and relatives, excoriating me for telling the Truth. Not one ever showed a moment's concern for the thousands of US troops, killed in this War, let alone the 1 million innocent Iraqis. All your concern is for the "feelings" of the Smettes!
I offered the Smettes a deal then: retract their support of the War and George W. Bush, and I would remove my Posts. I even offered to appear with them at a news conference wherein they repudiated this Evil War! They declined my offer so the Posts remain.
It is my fervent hope that the Smettes NEVER have a day's peace so long as they allow their evil support of this War to remain unchallenged. I am encouraged by your email because now I know they are still suffering as they should.
What about the families and friends of the 4,000 dead soldiers aside from the Smettes! What about them? You and all the Selfish family and frriends of the Smettes need to reevaluate your priorities.
There is a fine line between EVIL and STUPIDITY! I cannot prove the Smettes are truly EVIL, but it should be transparent to all, even the Smettes by now, that they are truly STUPID!
One family member, I think her name was Elizabeth, wrote saying she was a Democrat. She seemed genuine enough, but even she was only concerned about the Smettes' feelings, not the 4,000 dead. Being a Democrat scored 1 Brownie Point, but Hillary Clinton is a Democrat, and she voted for HJ Res 114, which authorized that Nazi in the White House to invade Iraq in 2002. So being a BAD DEMOCRAT is no better than being a BAD REPUBLICAN or a BAD INDEPENDENT! I would sooner honor a GOOD GOPer like Senator Chafee, who voted against the Resolution, than an Evil Idiot Democrat such as Hillary Clinton, who voted for it.

The War is not about WMDs, Iraqi freedom, removing Saddam Hussein or America's security - those were EXCUSES, not REASONS! The Iraq War is about OIL & WAR PROFITEERING. Only you people, like the Smettes, are still too dumb to know it.

I have offered on several occasions to hold a joint press conference with the Smettes if they will repudiate their support of this unconscionable war. Does that sound as if I am afraid to "face" you?
Nobody questions your motives in going to war. Nor the motives of the Smettes' son, Keith. Keith is a hero despite being a misguided soldier. The question is not about your motives or those of any soldier, serving in Iraq. The questions are about the motives of the neocons, who started this war for profit. Until and unless you understand that, this dialogue is without merit.
If you cannot see the selfishness, corruptness and indifference of our leaders, both Republican and Democratic, who supported this war because rich men pulled their strings, then we are discussing the wrong subject.
The only intelligent dialogue I've had with your family and friends has been with Elizabeth Montoya. Hers was the only voice of reason I've heard from your klan. You should treasure her.
The rest of you people are willing dupes, uneducated, uninformed and unworthy. But none of this would have made my blog had not Charlotte and Doug Smette given their public support for Bush's War. Once they did, they became public domain just as Tammy Pruett has.

I am against evil - Republican or Democratic. However the Republicans have taken evil to new levels. This War is primarily about George W. But nobody wants to face the truth that an American President can be so evil - well, George W. Bush is that evil. And so is his father, George the First.

It's fools like the Christians, who have prayed for a GWB to come along and they accept him with all his faults because he speaks their language. A curse on these people. It's the poor Republicans, who get nothing but psychological advantage when Bush discriminates against Blacks, homosexuals and Muslims. They get nothing when Bush supports big business and the rich over average Americans. A curse on these people. And finally, the Smettes - George doesn't even remember Keith's name. The only reason he had any use for non-rich people like the Smettes is because they gave positive publicity to his dastardly war. George doesn't socialize with poor folks unless there are cameras in the room.
For the last and final time, if the Smettes publicly remove their support for the war, I will happily remove every vestige of my Articles and Comments. And I will gladly write, not a retraction, but a tribute to Keith Smette and his parents for being wise enough to both admit and correct a bad mistake. Anyone can err, but I respect those, who correct their errors even more than those, who have not erred in the first place. This isn't about Tabacco; this isn't about the Smettes; this is about the War. Only people like the Smettes can stop it. Stop it now before other Keiths die without proper reason.
