Do you know who Mordechai Vanunu is? If not, you can blame the US media.
Mordechai Vanunu was a former Israeli nuclear technician, who blew the whistle on Israel's secret nuclear weapons program (WMD's) to the British press as an "act of conscience". He was employed at the Negev Nuclear Research Center, south of Dimona. Having fled Israel, he was captured by Israeli agents September 30, 1986, in Rome after being seduced, drugged and abducted back to Israel. (Sounds familiar, doesn't it?) He was tried in secret for treason and convicted. He served 18 years in prison, more than 11-1/2 of them in solitary confinement as a political prisoner. He was released April 21, 2004, but under very strict conditions which include not being allowed to leave Israel, travel inside Israel to certain areas, or speak to foreigners. He violated those terms when he was interviewed by, among others, Amy Goodman*** of "Democracy Now" on World Link TV. I saw that interview. He said little and revealed even less.
Neither Israel nor the United States is anxious for Mordechai to leave Israel and bring "front page" coverage to Israel's nuclear WMD program. The United States has N-E-V-E-R acknowledged that Israel has a nuclear program. (That's why I'm still on the fence about aliens or ET's because the US government not only has never acknowledged the existence of aliens, through Project Blue Book, they instituted a "disinformation" study whose aim was not to uncover the truth, but to cover-up and camouflage the truth. -"Once a liar, always a liar!")
Israel's WMD shenanigans are even worse than how they treated Vanunu. They are the only nuclear power without any international inspectors. A few years ago the US granted them a special status so that commercial satellites cannot photograph Israel with the resolution they photograph the rest of the world.
The location of Israel's 5 major nuclear program installations is public knowledge and has been for some time. But Israel wants to put Mordechai Vanunu back in jail because of interviews granted to the press and statements such as, "We don't need a Jewish state. There needs to be a Palestinian state.".

PS. Vanunu converted to Christianity in 1986, was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, a long-running campaign has sought his release, and his treatment was condemned by Amnesty International as "cruel, inhuman, and degrading".
