Humira TV Ad Does Everything But Guarantee Death, But Take It For Rheumatoid Arthritis - Are They Kidding! - RI10

Humira TV Ad Does Everything

But Guarantee Death,

But Take It For

Rheumatoid Arthritis –

Are They Kidding! – RI10

A mature, attractive White woman with a soothing voice, sits among her numerous plants, looks straight at the camera and says:

“I know you; you’re sitting there with rheumatoid arthritis.  This is one of your good days, right?  And you’re gonna wait – till when?  Till you can’t turn on a light? A piece of advice about waiting – don’t!  Not when there’s Humira.”

(Visual):

HUMIRA
adalimumab

For moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis.

Ms. Helpful continues,

“Talk with a rheumatologist today.”  She gets down on the ground with her plants to show how limber she is after taking the stuff.

“Humira doesn’t just stop the pain and stiffness; it can even slow the progress of R.A. Cause just sitting there, your joints could be deteriorating.  And when they’re gone, they’re gone.”

(Visual at bottom of TV screen):

1-866-4-HUMIRA

A different female voice intones:

“Some people with heart failure should not take Humira.  Humira can lower your ability to fight infections.  So tell your doctor right away if you have ever had Tuberculosis, or are prone to infection.  Or if you get an infection, do not start Humira if you have an infection such as an open sore or the flu.

There have been rare reports of serious and sometimes fatal infections and tuberculosis, blood disorders, nervous system disorders, serious allergic reactions and lymphoma have occurred.”

(I've printed this really small, not because it's inaudible, but because you are being persuaded to pay as little attention to it as possible by our busy little Ms. Helpful, who putters around while this litany of side-effects is being read.  Her activity negates the possibility that the viewer is actually listening to the drawbacks of Humira.)

While this voice tells you the downside, our good woman waters her plants and performs household duties with the ease and dexterity of a woman of 20; although it is clear that she is about 40-55 herself.

(Visual at bottom of TV screen):

Individual results may vary.

Now Ms. Helpful speaks to us again:

“Do it!  Talk with a rheumatologist about Humira."

Are they kidding!  Advertizers know how little attention Americans pay to the fine print or disclaimer.
It sounds like an Infomercial for George W. Bush:  "Hi there, I'm George W. Bush.  I'm running for President.  When I leave the White House in 8 years, I'll be a billionaire.  Most of you will be poor, that is if you weren't killed in the wars I am going to start.  Vote for me, George W. Bush, because I'm strong on genocide."

(Visual at bottom of TV screen):

HUMIRA
adalimumab

Hell, I’d rather live and be unable to turn on a light than have a so-so chance of getting rid of arthritis and die.

I’m not saying that Humira is bad or that you shouldn’t use it if you have arthritis.  But I am saying that after listening to all the Negatives that are possible if you use this stuff, I would have to be almost dead before I’d use it.

How can anyone even consider Humira with all these “Side Effects”?  They know how unthinking Americans are.  After all, Americans still smoke cigarettes in spite of the WARNINGS tobacco companies are forced to place on cigarette packages.

Consider:

Aspartame Side Effects
There are over 92 different health symptoms associated with aspartame consumption.
It seems surreal, but true.

DRUG REHABILITATION REFERRAL SERVICES

MARIJUANA
Smoking pot can lead to anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and paranoia-and those problems don't improve over time. Also, sixty percent of teenagers in drug treatment programs are there because of marijuana.

HEROIN
Heroin is highly addictive and poses special problems for those who inject it because of the risks of HIV, hepatitis B and C, and other diseases that can occur from sharing needles

COCAINE
Cocaine interferes with the way your brain processes chemicals that create feelings of pleasure, so you need more and more of the drug just to feel normal. People who become addicted to cocaine start to lose interest in other areas of their life.

ALCOHOL
Alcohol can damage every organ in your body. It is absorbed directly into your bloodstream and can increase your risk for a variety of life-threatening diseases, including cancer.

ECSTASY
Studies on both humans and animals have proven that regular use of ecstasy produces long-lasting, perhaps permanent damage to the brain’s ability to think and store memories.

GHB is used in “date rape” and other assaults because it is a sedative that can immobilize you.

HALLUCINOGENS
Hallucinogens affect your well-being. They can cause heart and lung failure and also put you in a coma. They may cause you to feel confused, suspicious, and disoriented.

KETAMINE
Ketamine can make a user vomit and convulse. In some cases, people have been known to go into a coma.

METHAMPHETAMINES
Methamphetamine causes mind and mood changes such as anxiety, euphoria, and depression. Long-term effects can include chronic fatigue, paranoid or delusional thinking, and permanent psychological damage.

ROHYPNOL
Rohypnol can cause a kind of amnesia—users may not remember what they said or did while under the effects of the drug, making it easier for others to take advantage of them.

SMOKING
Smoking is particularly harmful for people in their teens because the body is still growing and changing. The 200 known poisons in cigarette smoke affect your normal development and can cause life-threatening diseases.

STEROIDS
Steroid use can cause irregular menstrual cycles and infertility in women and a reduced sperm count and testicular shrinkage in men.

INHALANTS
People who use inhalants can lose their sense of smell; experience nausea and nosebleeds; and develop liver, lung, and kidney problems. Chronic use can lead to muscle wasting and reduced muscle tone and strength.

I am talking with Odessa as I write.  She told me a very interesting story about her doctor giving her Prozac for mild depression.  I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT DOCTORS’ ADVICE SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.  THEY ARE ALL CAPITALISTS – THEIR PRIMARY CONSIDERATIONS MAY BE THEIR OWN FINANCES AND THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES.  ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION.  By the way, Odessa, who just said to me, “Use common sense”, threw the Prozac in the garbage.  GOOD FOR YOU, GIRL!)

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!  I admit it – I’ve been lucky.  I have gout.  And since I’ve changed my eating habits, it has definitely become almost nothing but a memory.  But even Tabacco had no idea how bad things are in the world.  And what about those ignoramuses using the recreational drugs, listed above?  What must they be thinking!

What about the woman I saw on TV recently, who had elective facial surgery and got all messed up from the plastic surgery.  She says now that she wished she hadn’t done it.  I say, “What in the hell was wrong with you in the first place?”

I hope my Readers are smarter than that.  Or should I say “lucky” until now.  But people, read the fine print.  I would add the Republican Party to this Partial List of Dangerous Prescription, Over-The-Counter and Recreational Drugs that no one should even consider before or after your lobotomy.

The world is in deep trouble, folks.  Maybe you don’t do this stuff, but I bet you know somebody, who does.  And I bet you know some young person, who does.  Send them to the websites referenced above for their particular insanity.

This has been a learning experience for me too, folks.

When I finish publishing this Article, I am going into the kitchen to make my salad.  I am 64, in great shape and walk miles at a time.  If I can find some partners, I will play tennis this summer.  I used to have a damn near impossible to return serve – but that’s history now.

Rick:

Sorry, I inadvertently deleted your Comment. Something to the effect about "simple minds" wanting simple solutions and should you take aspirin after reading blogs like mine.

I highly recommend your taking both aspirin and Humira by the bottle-load - everyday! Let me know how things turn out for you.

I think that the commercials are selling points, but if you have one of these illnesses taking medications that help you is a blessing.

Tara:

I appreciate your input. But I fail to see how replacing one illness with another could be considered a "blessing"?

I am reminded of the man, who had a stomach ache so hurtful that he picked up a hammer and hit himself in the foot. The foot pain was so excruciating that the stomach ache now escaped his attention.

Tabacco, I feel you need educating.

I take humira and it has turned my life around, I was 34 going on 84, but now i'm back to near enough normal, having spine disease and chrons disease is no small change pal, this humira is a miracle. I now have a great home, great job, travel the world, go on nice holidays and all that stuff. This has happened over the last two years. I spent 15 years previously crippled, and in and out the hospital seeing specialists. I was eventually taken on as a special case by the hospital, who fund my treatment. humira is not generally available on the NHS in the UK.

I believe that all the warnings at the end of the ad are aimed at numb nuts who sue the shit out of someone who farts in their general direction, oh yeah, they're called yanks. See, i can make sweeping statements as well. If you look at the back of a pack of asprin you'll find similar scary warnings.

Tabacco Replies:

Alan has taken his personal experience (if we can believe him - he may be nothing more than a shill for this product) and attempted to build a universal case based on his own personal case. NO CAN DO!

No medicine would last 5 minutes on pharmacy shelves if it killed everybody or made everybody sick. We do not deny that even strychnine poison may have a salutary effect in some instances. That is NOT THE POINT. The point is that medicines, which have too many or too frequent side effects, should never be permitted on the shelves in the first place.

Thalidomide is an example of medicine with horrific effects on pregnant women in the 1950s, which was recalled, and today is apparently being used effectively, in smaller, more correct dosages, to cure some disease or other in men. Again, Thalidomide did not cause birth defects in each and every baby. But it caused enough to get it pulled from the shelves.

I hope you will rethink and reflect that your specific case does not make a general case. Thanks for the opportunity to correct this illogical thinking, which no doubt has invaded the minds of others beside Alan.

My mother died 12/30/08 from taking Humira, she was 47 years old. Every organ in her body was failing when she went into the hospital. She had been taking this drug for less than a year. The doctors at the hospital blamed this directly on Humira. SO for the people who find this drug helpful for them, all I can say is this drug is a ticking time bomb. As my mother found she improved for a little while on this but I think it was masking the pain while killing her body.

I was wondering if you had one of the diseases where humira would be recommended to you? If not, then it’s pretty difficult for you to judge other people for taking it. Many people have no other options but to take immunosuppressant which is why they turn to this. Have you looked up the statistics about how many people actually do die or develop cancer from humira? For people on this drug it is more about quality of life not quantity. For many people with Crohn’s disease if you are not on a drug like humira or remicade, and your symptoms get as bad as mine did, then the inflammation would cause you to have a way higher chance of developing cancer than either one of these drugs would. Maybe you should think of other people who have these diseases. Their life is hard enough as it is and you writing this doesn’t really do anything besides restate the facts everyone on this drug already knows. Unless your motive is to just judge and put down the people who have to be on it because they really do not have any other choice. You really shouldn’t ever judge anyone, especially for taking a drug that could be potentially saving their life. I think you’re really mean person and you should keep your thoughts to yourself.

Jill:

If Humira were the only option, I might consider it. But first, I would seek other options! My critique is aimed mainly at the pharmaceutical company that makes it. The gall these guys have to say all those side effects, knowing the American public will buy it anyway.

Is Humira the ONLY "IMMUNOSUPPRESSANT"? Or do you even know?

I went to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transplant_rejection after doing a search on "immunosuppressants" and found the following list, which does NOT include Humira. I suggest you do such a search for medicines to treat Crohn's disease, then research each one assiduously. Do not surrender your medical condition completely to doctors - not all doctors are created equal! And if you have not done a search similar to the one I just did, shame on you!

Did you even compare Humira to Remicade? How about others? Do you do it periodically since new drugs hit the market weekly?

Immunosuppressive drugs used to treat transplant rejection

  • Calcineurin inhibitors

    • o Cyclosporin

    • o Tacrolimus

  • mTOR inhibitors

    • o Sirolimus

    • o Everolimus

  • Anti-proliferatives

    • o Azathioprine

    • o Mycophenolic acid

  • Corticosteroids

    • o Prednisolone

    • o Hydrocortisone

  • Antibodies

    • o Monoclonal anti-IL-2Rα receptor antibodies

      • + Basiliximab

      • + Daclizumab

    • o Polyclonal anti-T-cell antibodies

      • + Anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG)

      • + Anti-lymphocyte globulin (ALG)

The monoclonal anti-T cell antibody OKT3 was formerly used in the prevention of rejection, and is occasionally used in treatment of severe acute rejection, but has fallen out of common use due to the severe cytokine release syndrome and late post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder, which are both commonly associated with use of OKT3; in the United Kingdom it is available on a named-patient use basis only.

I wrote this Post to get people like you to do more research, not just accept whatever some doctor says. Some doctors make money from recommending certain drugs. Thalidomide caused birth defects in women, so now that pharmaceutical company sells it to men. Conditions such as "chronic fatigue syndrome" were INVENTED just to sell some drug that didn't "cure" anything! The public needs to research ALL relevant medicines and ALL relevant politicians. We have relied upon "knowledgeable advice" for too long. Tabacco is NOT a doctor, nor do I give medical advice except to advise people to research everything that pertains to them. We have been lied to for profit for much too long.

"Putting down" people would be more satisfying if you focus on a particular individual or individuals. I don't see how that "itch" could be served by publishing a blog article that anybody can read. Where's the satisfaction in that! I DON'T put poisons in TYLENOL either!

I am a mean person, but my meanness is directed at Capitalists, who exploit average people. If I kept my opinions to myself, 5,000 people a day would be disappointed.

I want to hear your opinion! If you did not want to read mine, then why did you read my Post in the first place!

Sorry for your condition, but you missed the point. I dump on Humira, not the poor suckers, who take it without seeking alternatives because they "trust" doctors. Tabacco does NOT trust Doctors or hospitals any more than I trust politicians or catholic priests.

I won't bore you with what happened to me in January. I will just say Martin L. King Clinic tried to frighten me into going to a urologist and pay $2,000 for tests because it had tested my blood for a particular condition and got a bad result. I already had that test done, and when I subsequently received the results, those results were much different from Martin L. King's results. I saved $2,000!

I am just the messenger - don't get upset with me for trying to warn average people against Capitalists, who are only in it to make a buck. This blog has NO ADVERTISING! Or didn't you notice!

Do you think people have a choice when they have PsA or RA? You should count your blessings, you will never know what you would do until you are there yourself, and I hope you never have to take anything as horrible as Humira. I take it and I live with the fact that it could kill me, or my illness can. I have to work therefor I have to be able to move. I'm damned if I do and damned if I dont.

Such ignorance must be bliss.

Wendy:

You are far from dumb. You are not helpless however! You need to do more Research and more pushing. If I were you, I would start a blog to reach people and demand that Pharmaceutical Companies find a better Solution than Humira.

Crying does no good! Neither does attacking me, the messenger. I am not your problem. You need to become loud and forceful. If I had your problem, you would see Posts all the time about the issue here. As it is, out of 1370 Articles I have posted, only 1 concerns Humira.

I am warning those, who are not aware of its Dangers. They are entitled to know just as you know. I don't blog to preach to the Choir. I blog to educate the rest of us.

Forget the "insult"! It was not meant for those of you, who know the Pitfalls. Not everyone, who takes Humira or knows someone close, who takes Humira, is aware.

I offer no apologies for publishing what you yourself agree is the Truth! Now you want me to stop because your feelings are hurt? Get off your butt and do something about it! That's what I'm attempting to do. Cease accepting the cards you've been dealt and do something about it! You can concentrate on Humira and I will concentrate on everything else. Do we have a deal? If you need advice about blogging, contact me at contact@tabacco.blog-city.com. If enough people start complaining, get enough information, and get angry enough to force the Pharmaceutical Companies to test their own products and develop better products, this problem of 'BAD DRUGS' will cease. If they sell Humira and few complaints are made, where is the motivation for them to work on a BETTER PRODUCT! They just sit back and let the dollars roll in!

I am sorry for your problem, but I hope to inspire you. It is not my intention to "dump" on those with medical problems, which are not of their own making. People, who smoke and get sick from it in 2009 should know better! But those, who are dependent on Humira for example, have not my sympathy - sympathy won't help. ACTION WILL HELP! BELIEVE ME, THE NOISY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE!

If you start a blog, I will be glad to give you publicity here.

Good luck,

Truth About Business And Congressional Crimes Organization
