Tabacco: You’ve no doubt heard the Axioms that “Slavery/Violence/Discrimination/Etc. are as American as apple pie”! I’m sure you can supply other attributes, which apply equally as well! I would supply the word “Hypocrisy”. Priorities are things Americans have never been good at - or at which Americans have never been good.
When child sex abuse became a politically correct subject, we began prosecuting innocent preschool administrators by asking children loaded questions and coercing those kids into believing they had actually been abused when no such abuse ever occurred. Americans are excellent at OVERREACTION too – add that to your “as American as apple pie” list!
When the Conservative Religious Right gained control of politics back in the day, they got Prohibition passed, which made Al Capone, Speakeasies and other Mafioso rich and had little effect on America’s obsession with alcohol.
America began with institutionalized Slavery, advanced to Segregation & ghettoes, and finally arrived at Racial Profiling, Redlining, Voter Caging and other less obvious but nonetheless discriminatory practices aimed at people of color - all the while beating a path to the nearest vendor of Coppertone!
To say that America is and always has been clinically INSANE can best be described as UNDERSTATEMENT! But Americans’ preoccupation with self-approbation and self-congratulations for its own history and institutions is so profound and misplaced as to bring embarrassment and shame to Nazis!
Why is it when people act atrociously, they invariably invoke God, Jesus, Church and National Pride! May we infer the converse “People, who invariably invoke God, Jesus, Church and National Pride, are acting atrociously” and are motivated by Guilt and a common desire to maintain their own Sanity at the expense of their own Ethics, Common Sense & Truth!
The same “Birthers”, who rail against Obama under the pretext that he is not American, lack the courage to admit their true objection is to Obama’s skin color, not his national origin!
The same Voters, who claim to be “issue-oriented”, accept Reverend Wright, Hillary’s attire and emotional displays, Bill Clinton’s and Gary Hart’s philandering as important political issues, but change the channel should anyone actually discuss real Healthcare Reform, Disaster Capitalists’ Wars-for-Profit, Voter Caging, Corporate Socialism or Welfare, and Conservative Supreme Court’s Judicial Misconduct in their Bush-Gore 2000 Decision.
Worst of all the American displays of Hypocrisy could not exist without Political Correctness, Mainstream Media Silence, Complicity of Churches, Republican-Democratic Conspiracy, Corporate Control of America and all these culminated with the 8-years of the Bush administration. We’re told that at worst Bushites may be guilty of “BAD JUDGMENT”?
Are you kidding! Bushites came into office eager to invade Iraq! See the PNAC website for their epistles to Bill Clinton, exhorting such action!
Type “New American Century” into my Search Box for the 411 on the PNAC, which has since rebranded itself “Foreign Policy Initiative” – what’s in a name, right!
Then compare the Bush administration member list against the member list of the Project For The New American Century - PNAC/Foreign Policy Initiative! The differences are minimal!
9/11/2001 gave Bushites the excuse - but not immediately! Colin Powell prevailed and first they invaded Afghanistan.
Soon thereafter they made the ludicrously specious case against Saddam Hussein and his alleged WMDs, then did what they wanted to do in the 1st place: INVADED IRAQ!
Dick Cheney infamously is quoted as saying, “Iraq has better targets”. What he didn’t say, but meant, is Iraq has better oil, and that oil will belong to the French, Germans & Russians if we don’t reverse Saddam’s oil deals, which excluded the USA!
Of course the duplicity could never have been accomplished were it not for the COMPLICITY OF SILENCE by the MSM, GOP & the Democrats!
Yet almost none of these obvious events and motivations have been discussed in the Media! We only hear “mistakes – errors in judgment – overreaction – incompetence” but never “malfeasance – duplicity – disaster capitalism – genocide – war crimes – treason”, which are much more accurate assessments but less “politically correct”.
Obama’s 1st announcement was that we would look “forward, not backward” re the prior administration’s actions. If Obama were not insulating his own planned future abominations, what else could have prevented an inquiry into Republican DIRTY TRICKS! Of course Democratic legislators may already have been accomplices in Bush’s DISASTER CAPITALISM! That could be the other reason!
Are all Americans suffering from ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)? Are we incapable of focusing on anything longer than the time it takes to view a SOUND BITE? And do commercials permit us to view an entire program rather than supply just an irritating interruption, without which we might drift off into our own thoughts or change the channel? Would you prefer a film on Cable without commercials or are you addicted to commercial interruption? How shallow are we!
Even politicians are more impressed with a few constituents, who contact them frequently and with passion, than they are with their own Polls of the Public at large.
Why do we allow Rich users of expensive cocaine to get off with a “wrist slap” for a “misdemeanor” while USE of crack-cocaine (a cheaper cocaine-derivative), affordable to the public at large, draws felony convictions and long prison terms!
Legislators excuse this discrepancy in Criminal Law by saying Crack leads to more violence. Since when do we reward a man for only fighting one pit-bull, for only beating up one black male in a “Hate Crimes” motivated act, for only murdering one wife for her insurance!
Yes, we do allow stronger criminal and financial penalties on those, who perpetually break our laws - Repeat Criminals or Recidivists.
But to “throw the book at” repeat felons and allow extenuating circumstances for 1st-time offenders are not the same as excusing single and/or multiple acts of depravity because the perpetrator spent more money on his vice than his poorer counterpart did! That is irrational, economically and regressively biased as well as illogical! And we bought the subterfuge hook, line and sinker!
Cigarette Companies collect and pay REGRESSIVE Sales Taxes to State and Federal government! Other than that lone fact, I see no reason for pot to be criminalized and cigarettes to be not even a misdemeanor! Until recently Joe Camel was allowed to advertise to our kids! When you see silly beer ads on TV, do you truly believe the beer companies’ advertising is NOT focused on youths!
Cigarettes cause DEATHS - the exact total would never be researched or reported by any group with the financial ability to do so! I don’t know of many - or any - confirmed cases of DEATH BY POT - do you?
“Gateway Drug”? What exactly does that mean? Perhaps cigarettes are a “Gateway Drug”! Nobody ever mentions that possibility! I wonder why!
Most - but not all - Serial Killers make this error of omission: they don’t join their local police force or sign up for the military.
Cops murdering Blacks has never been out-of-season, and bench trials exonerate all cops!
Serial Rapists would do well to join our military also! Soldiers’ rapes of female inductees and murders of foreigners are universally excused, ignored and generally condoned or denied by our military command.
If you seek “Easy Money” and a “Life of Crime”, pursue a career in Politics! Lobbying has been corroborated by no lesser authority than the Supreme Court! And Disaster Capitalists will “THROW MONEY AT YOU” for each War Funding Vote you approve.
Of course big-city Billionaire Mayors like Mike Bloomberg can make a killing by favoring real estate investors and building Billion-$ sports complexes like the new Yankee Stadium to recoup their personal expenditures required for election! Yet Bloomberg gets Brownie Points for taking only $1 salary and not living in Gracie Mansion. Mike makes a lot more than $190,000! He just spent $100 million of his own money to get reelected! Do you really think his ego is that needy or that Mike is that bad a businessman! Mike Bloomberg just bought the election! For that position Mike spent $100 Million! His salary is $1 per annum, and he doesn't even receive free lodging. How big a fool do you think Mike Bloomberg is! More importantly, how big a fool is the New York City VOTER!
So in democratic America there is no crime, no vice, no debauchery, no prejudice, no abomination so awful that you cannot partake of it so long as you join the proper organization, have enough wealth or pursue the proper career!
America is truly a DREAM COME TRUE - for the CORRUPT, the BIASED, the GREEDY, the CRIMINALLY INSANE and the everyday, garden variety SOCIOPATH!

universal subject, not a peculiarly American one! Needless to say, the
Church's preoccupation with PROFITS parallels the rest of Capitalism's
industries! The Catholic Church leads the way, but almost all Churches in
every country are guided by Leaders, whose adherence to Capitalism and
their own Financial advancement would be commendable in a United Healthcare
Board Room!
