Tabacco: I have stated before that one of the advantages of having Democrats in Power instead of Republicans is that Democrats can be dissuaded from immoral or improper courses of action whereas Republicans, with their incorrigible “Principles” cannot be dissuaded. This is Proof of that Assertion!

I use the word “Principles” advisedly when referring to Republican leaders. A more correct and accurate assessment of Republican leadership would be “dogmatic, demagogic, inflexible, immoveable and dead-wrong”.

Republicans pursue a course of Profit for Have-Mores, not for the rest of America. Republicans pursue a course of Disaster Capitalism, not Right or Humanitarian. Republicans pursue a course of Redistribution of Wealth from the Base to the Top of the Pyramid and its natural consequence – “Trickle Down Economics”. It is therefore unreasonable and foolhardy to expect the GOP to ever consider the “country” above the interests of Have-Mores, Big Business & the Rich. And to that degree, Republicans never vary from a course, which suits those interests. Even reelection often comes in 2nd best in their hierarchy of essentials. And last, but by no means least, Republicans are dogged in their Pursuit of the Ungodly!

We have come a long way from the GOPer days of George W. Bush saying, “I’m the President; I don’t have to explain anything!”

Obama leaves door open to Bush

officials' prosecution

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Obama on Tuesday left open the possibility of criminal prosecution for Bush administration officials who drew up the legal basis for interrogation techniques that many view as torture.

Obama said it will be up to Attorney General, Eric Holder, to decide whether or not to prosecute the former officials.
Tabacco: Is this a true “change of direction” or is the “Buck” being placed on Holder’s desk? In either case, pressure works on Democrats and not on Republicans. We may need to apply more pressure on both Holder and Obama, but pressure works!

"With respect to those, who formulated those legal decisions, I would say that is going to be more a decision for the attorney general within the parameter of various laws, and I don't want to prejudge that", Obama said during a meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah at the White House.
Tabacco: That of course is “Horse Manure”! Tabacco’s enemies and even some of his friends thought he would give Obama a “free ride”, unlike the pillory tactics against George W. Bush. Aren’t you surprised!

"There's a host of very complicated issues involved there. As a general deal, I think we should be looking forward and not backward.
Tabacco: Reading between the lines – Obama means he still needs Republican Senate votes to achieve 60, which negates Filibuster. So coming down too hard on Bushites is not Politically SMART! He is correct, but that’s why WE THE PEOPLE must force him to do what is RIGHT so he can have “Plausible Deniability”.

"I do worry about this getting so politicized that we cannot function effectively, and it hampers our ability to carry out critical national security operations."

Video Watch as Obama says U.S. can be protected and live up to its ideals »

Obama's remarks came five days after the administration released four Bush-era memos detailing the use of terror interrogations such as waterboarding, a technique used to simulate drowning.

One memo showed that CIA interrogators used waterboarding -- which Obama has called torture -- at least 266 times on two top al Qaeda suspects.

Obama reiterated his belief that he did not think it is appropriate to prosecute those CIA officials and others, who carried out the interrogations in question.
Plausible Deniability! Politics is a Dirty Business!

"This has been a difficult chapter in our history and one of [my] tougher decisions", he added. The techniques listed in memos "reflected ... us losing our moral bearings."
Sorry, but GOPer leaders never had any “moral bearings”! Obama knows that, but the President is merely observing “political correctness”.

The president's apparent willingness to leave the door open to a prosecution of Bush officials seemed to contradict White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who indicated Sunday that the administration was opposed to such an action.

Obama believes "that's not the place that we [should] go", Emanuel said on ABC's "This Week".

"It's not a time to use our energy ... looking back [with] any sense of anger and retribution."

On Monday, Obama asserted during a visit to CIA headquarters that he had released the documents primarily because of the "exceptional circumstances that surrounded these memos, particularly the fact that so much of the information was [already] public. ... The covert nature of the information had been compromised."
Tabacco: Excuses, not Reasons. He loved being able to do it – shhhhhh! I love it too, but I’m not President so I can say it in print.

– IT WORKS!

PHILOSOPHICAL UPDATE April 22, 2009

Tabacco: I have reevaluated my position and found that I have been wrong about Torture and George W. Bush - Dick Cheney have been right. This is why:

I agree with Bush administration policy of torturing foreign terrorists to gather essential security information. After all, only confirmed terrorists were held at Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo, right? No?

Well, torturing "American" prisoners, held in our penal institutions before trial and/or indictment, is legal and constitutional, right? No?

Well, it is a known and proven fact that torture is the best way, in fact the only sure way, to elicit information from terrorists, who would not otherwise cooperate with us, right? No?

Come on, folks, work with me here! I’m running out of justifications for torturing foreigners and depriving them of their human rights when we do not treat our own malcontents and alleged criminals in like manner.  Surely the Bush administration had some moral or constitutional grounds for reversing almost 250 years of our Bill of Rights, not to mention the Holy Bible, the Magna Carta and our own ethics and jurisprudence?

Can we at least agree that foreigners, regardless of their ethnicity or country of origin, are not entitled to the Rights and Guarantees we give without question to our own citizens because we all know that Americans are human beings and foreigners are not? And Americans are superior to all other ethnic, religious or political denominations by virtue of our being either born in or nationalized by such a great democracy as America? No?

Then exactly what is the justification of the Bush administration for inflicting torture on “suspects whose names appear on their Terrorist lists”?

Tabacco: I consider myself both a funnel and a filter. I funnel information, not readily available on the Mass Media, which is ignored and/or suppressed. I filter out the irrelevancies and trivialities to save both the time and effort of my Readers and bring consternation to the enemies of Truth & Fairness! When you read Tabacco, if you don’t learn something NEW, I’ve wasted your time.

Tabacco is not a blogger, who thinks; I am a Thinker, who blogs.

Readers:

We have been misled into believing that stubbornness and incorrigibility are good and symptomatic of “leadership”, but reconsideration and reversal of course, if untenable, are indications of “weakness”. That is pure MACHISMO! It begs the issue! If you jump into the pool each morning before breakfast to enjoy a swim, but on this particular day you see the pool has no water in it, do you still jump!

Republican justifications and illogic are always so Stupid! The Public does not require being treated as intellectuals; Advertisers, Preachers, Salesmen, Politicians and even our children treat us as if we were all 8th grade Edith Bunkers. And it usually works!

HYPOCRISY IN MSM, EVEN WHEN THEY ATTEMPT TO DO THEIR JOBS!

CNN is now laughing derisively at the fact that George W. Bush has collected $100 million in 100 days in donations from anonymous donors for the Bush Library. THAT IS IRRELEVANT!

CNN should be investigating how many $Billion$ GWB is receiving under-the-table and from whom for his War in Iraq! $100 million is only a DROP IN THAT BUCKET!

Even though CNN is portraying itself as doing "investigative journalism", it is in fact investigating the WRONG THING! HYPOCRISY is ALIVE & WELL in the MAINSTREAM MEDIA (MSM)!
