Will Declare Miss Piggy A Saint
Well, that’s one way to get a cheering crowd! Tell Poles that their one Pope should be a Saint. If I went to Yankee Stadium and got in front of a microphone, I’d say that Derek Jeter belongs in the Hall of Fame. I like to be cheered too.
The Catholic Church has supported War throughout its history and contributed mightily to genocides. The Catholic Church has marginalized and discriminated against Jews, witches, atheists, agnostics, homosexuals, non-Catholics, Protestants etc. etc. The Church has supported dictators and opposed the masses. Benedict calls John Paul a Saint. What’s next? Will somebody call Ronald Reagan a Great President?
Pope Benedict issued statements to American Catholics telling them, in effect, not to vote for John Kerry, but to vote for George W. Bush in 2004. Since the Pope won’t keep his nose out of our business, I won’t keep my nose out of his business. Tabacco declares that if Pope John Paul, a sexist, racist, bigot is qualified to be a Saint, then so is Miss Piggy.
Miss Piggy has never discriminated against anyone, never excommunicated anyone, never attempted to influence the Elections in America or any other country, never marginalized anyone anywhere (well, maybe Kermit), never contributed by thought, word or deed any assistance to genocides or poverty. Nor has Miss Piggy ever been the CEO of the world’s most powerful, lethal and richest business.
In short, Miss Piggy has given the world nothing but pleasure. She has never harmed anyone. My suggestion to the present Pope Benedict (as in Arnold) is that he keep his nose in the Vatican and Tabacco will keep his nose out of the Vatican.
Until such time as this or any other Pope puts more effort into helping people instead of procuring further riches, Tabacco nominates Miss Piggy to be sainted along with Pope John Paul. I think that’s fair. In America we have a holiday for George Washington, a slave owner, and Martin Luther King, the offspring of slaves. In nominating Miss Piggy, we will have one moral Samaritan and one Philistine.
Philistinism is a derogatory term used to describe a particular attitude or set of values. When a person is called a Philistine (in the relevant sense), he is said to despise or undervalue art, beauty, intellectual content, and/or spiritual values. Philistines are also said to be materialistic, to favor conventional social values unthinkingly, and to favor forms of art that have a cheap and easy appeal (i.e. kitsch).

Simply because a Pope calls someone a “Saint” does not mean that God must agree. Or is it that the Pope tells God what to do? I shall not be so impudent as Popes and declare Miss Piggy a Saint, but I shall request that, if God considers Pope John Paul, a sinner of infinite magnitude, for sainthood or even beatification, He give Miss Piggy the same consideration.
And before the Pope or any other Christian utters words like atheist, heretic or sacrilege in this direction, let him read the words in his or her own Bible, uttered by Jesus Christ:
